I am all about the science behind Jari's workouts. But what about the science of diet? We all know that weight loss is essentially taking in less calories that we are using - a no brainer, right? I have 'researched' the number of calories that I need to not only survive, but keep up with my 6 workouts per week - 3 Ripped and 3 HIIT cardio. These are my BMR and AMR - all very scientific :O) The problem I am having is subtracting 500 calories per day from that total to ensure that I lose 1 pound per week - it is torture!! I am hungry all the time - and yes, I am eating 'clean' with protein whenever possible and am trying to eat 5 smaller meals per day. I have to admit that I have lost 5 pounds - with another 10-12 to go, but it has happened very slowly. Do any of you count calories or have any advice on whittling down the calories without feeling hungry??

I do this a lot during periods. My tip is to sit down and think about what you're actually eating. And are you drinking enough water during the day? Water fills you up between meals and the lack of water can result in a the brain signalling that you need more. This signal is often mistaken for a feeling of being hungry or in the need of just a little snack (I have no idea HOW though, but I do know I can sometimes grab a snack when Iall I needed was water!).

Some food work as better fillers than others and as a result you will not go through the day hungry as a wolf. Personally I find it works best with foods high in fibre such as brans, beans, veggies, quinoa, bulgur, fibre pasta, oatmeal, fruits, salads, soups, nuts and so on. Fibre fills you up and is also great for your insides. Recent studies show that eating your food hot will make you feel full a longer time. So whenever you can, make your meal a hot one.

I frequently browse low-cal recepie sources to get ideas for slim (but suprisingly often LARGE) meals. You'd be suprised and hopefully inspired on what can be done with just the right twist.

I am guessing you already knew pretty much all of the above. But..... at least I tried to get some ideas going. :)

Best of luck!

Thank you Jessica!

Since my last post, I have stopped counting calories since it was making me crazy and I felt like a failure if I went over my magic number. I have switched to portions, eating 5-6 small meals per day, lots of water etc. I guess what I really, really need is a good dose of patience! I have seen progress on the scale, with the measuring tape, and the way my clothes are fitting...it is just slow :O( I just have to remind myself that this is a lifestyle change and that I won't look like Jari Love in 2 months time! Although she certainly keeps me motivated!

Thanks for your tips - I think it's great that we can all help each other out from time to time. How long have you been doing Ripped? Are you still trying to lose fat or have you reached your goal?

Lisa
